First I plugged the cable into the tablet and the USB stick into the port. It did not work. On the computer, however, I realised that the cable from the supplied adapter was OK. I then restarted the tablet (shut down and then restarted again). The tablet then recognised the stick in the adapter and everything worked perfectly. Thanks for the speedy delivery. I can't imagine if I had bought the part (price approx. €6) in the Christmas rush in the relevant markets, with parking hassle, long searches on the shelves, annoying queues at the checkout to pay etc..
